Sale Target Amount

The Sale Target Amount calculator computes the amount of money needed on the sale of an item such that a specified amount is retained after sales commissions are paid.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

• (AC) After-Commission Income 
• (SC) Sale Commission Percent

Sale Target Amount (STA): The calculator returns the target amount in U.S. dollars (USD).  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

Sale Target Amount is the amount of money you would need to sell an item (e.g., real estate) such that you retain a desired amount of income after paying a sales commission.  The formula for Sale Target Amount is:

STA = AC / (1 - SC)

where:

• STA = Sale Target Amount
• AC = After-commission Amount wanted
• SC = Sales Commission
