Diffusing capacity, of the lung (DL), is the measurement of the transfer of gas from the lungs to the red blood cells.

Because this measurement of diffusing capacity doesn't show the individual parts of the multi-step process a different equation can be used to show all of the parts. 

`1/D_L = 1/D_M + 1/ (theta * V_C)`

Variables:

  • `D_M` = "Membrane Resistance to Diffusion"
  • `theta` = "Reaction Rate"
  • `V_C` = "Volume of Capillary Blood"
