The dyn/cm2 unit is often used to measure pressures.  This is a very small pressure unit and is used in measurement of shear stresses. The Dyne per Square Centimeter is derived from the CGS unit of force.  1 Dyne is equal to 1 gram accelerated 1 centimeter per second squared.   The Torr is used to measure the low pressures found in vacuum chambers and pumps.  The Torr is defined as exactly one Standard Atmosphere divided by 760.  The Torr unit is named for the mathematician and physicist, Evangelista Torricelli who discovered the principle behind the barometer.
