The Volume calculator computes the volume of an object based the surface area (A) and a depth (d)./attachments/180526c2-4ab1-11e6-9770-bc764e2038f2/vol(area,depth).png  Volume based on Area (A) and depth(d).

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (A) This is the area
  • (d) This is the depth

Volume (V): The volume is returned in cubic meters.  However, the units can be automatically converted to other units (e.g. cubic meters to U.S. gallons) via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The formula for volume from area and depth assumes a flat surface (A) and the depth or height measured perpendicular to the surface (h).  The formula for the volume based on area and height is:

         V = A • d

where:

  • V = volume
  • A = area
  • d = height or depth

This equation, V = A * d, is used in 1 page
