The Hydrostatic Pressure calculator computes the pressure at the base of a column of fluid based on the height of the column (aka the head), the density of the fluid and the acceleration due to gravity.
INSTRUCTION: Choose units and enter the following:
(ρ) This is the density of the fluid (e.g. water density is almost 1000 kg/m3)
(g) This is the acceleration due to gravity (conventional, 9.80665 m/s2 to the sea surface)
(h) This is the height of column of liquid
Hydrostatic Pressure (hp): The calculator returns the pressure in pascals. However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.
The Math / Science
Hydrostatic pressure is the pressure due to the weight of a fluid in a column such as a vertical pipe.
hp=ρ•g•h
where:
hp = hydrostatic pressure
ρ = density of the fluid (e.g. water density is approximately 1000 kg/m3)
