End-to-end delay is the total time it takes for a packet to be sent through a network. Each router has its own separate delay times so this only gives an estimation.

This equation computes an estimated end-to-end delay in seconds from the following inputs:

  • n - the number of links between routers
  • dproc - the average processing delay incurred by a router
  • dtrans - the average transmission delay
  • dprop - the average propagation delay
