The Volume of Water from Weight calculator computes the volume (V) of water associated with a weight or mass.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the flowing;

  • (W) Weight of Water

Volume of Water(V):  The calculator returns the volume of water in gallons.  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The Volume of Water from Weight computes the amount of water that would weigh a specified amount.

V = M / D

where:

  • V = Volume of Water
  • M = Mass or Weight of Water
  • D = Density of Water (1,000 kg/m3)

The Density of Water is 1,000 kilograms per cubic meters. The formula for mass is:

              M = D • V

where:

  • M is the mass
  • D is the density (mean density)
  • V is the volume.

The mean density (mD, μD or ρ) of many common substances, elements, liquids and materials can be found by clicking HERE (e.g. the μD(water) is 1,000 kg/m3).
