This World of Warcraft (WoW) DPS equation computes the general damage per second (DPS) metric based on a WoW character's present weapon's statistics. DPS represents the averaged damage dealt by a character per second.

Damage Per Second (DPS): The calculator returns damage done per second.
DPS characterizes the difference in damage-dealing characteristics between characters of different classes and of different levels.
Damage is treated as a unitless number in WoW. You can think of the damage a character creates as applying some number of "damage units" to the enemy character. Therefore DPS is computed as:
`"DPS" = (D_"(max)" + D_"(min)") / (2*T) = "damage units"/"sec"`
When you mouse-over a weapon, you will see a range of damage your weapon can inflict specified as "nn - mm Damage", where nn is the Weapon Damage(min) in (in damage units) we input to this equation and mm is the Weapon Damage(max) we input to this equation. The number immediately beneath the name of the weapon type is the weapon speed. the weapon speed is a frequency or more precisely damage units per second. A damage unit is a uniform constant in WoW.
