The  Adiabatic Bulk Modulus calculator computes the bulk modulus as a function of the change in pressure and volume and the initial volume.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (dp)  This is the change in pressure.
  • (dv) This is the change in volume
  • (V) This is the initial volume.

Bulk Modulus: The bulk modulus is returned in units of pressure (kPa).  This can be automatically converted to other pressure units via the pull-down menu.

The Math

The isothermal bulk modulus  is the bulk modulus for a substance at constant temperature, defined by

               Ks=-V(dP/dV)s

where

  • Ks = bulk modulus
  • P = pressure
  • V = volume

dP/dV denotes the derivative of pressure with respect to volume
