The Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures calculator computes the pressure of a mixture of ideal gases based on the sum of the partial pressures of those gases.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
Pressure (P): The calculator returns the pressure in atmospheres. However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.
The total pressure of a mixture of ideal gases is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of those gases. This is expressed through Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures:
Ptotal = Pa + Pb + Pc + Pd + ...
where:
All of the partial pressures will have default units of atmospheres (atm), but can be calculated using any units of pressure. This will result in Ptotal being measured in whichever pressure units are selected.
Dalton's Law allows us to relate calculated pressures to the composition of mixtures.
