Fuel Cost over a Distance

The Fuel Cost over a Distance calculator computes the cost of fuel for a trip based on the distance, fuel efficiency (mpg) and the price of fuel.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

• (D) Distance of Travel
• (MPG) Fuel Efficiency (miles per gallon or kilometers per liter)
• (P) Price of Fuel (e.g., dollars per gallon)

Cost of Fuel (TC): The calculator returns the total fuel cost in U.S. dollars.  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down window.

The Math / Science

The formula for the Cost of Fuel is:

TC = (D/f)⋅P

where:

• TC = Total Cost of fuel
• D = Distance Traveled
• f = Fuel Economy
• P = Unit Price of Fuel
