This equation computes the Radius of Gyration (RG) of a solid cylinder about the `x_c` axis, the axis parallel to the x-axis and through the center of the solid cylinder.

The Radius of Gyration about a given axis  can be expressed in terms of the moment of inertia as:

`r^2 = I_"axis"/m`

This equation is computing specifically the radius of gyration about the axis through the center parallel to the x-axis defined in the picture.  Because of symmetry of the cylinder, the radius of gyration about the `z_c`-axis is the same for the radius of gyration about the point c on the aaxis (`r_"xc"`). 1

Inputs

Where the input to the calculation of the Radius of Gyration (RG) is:

  • r = the radius of the solid cylinder
  • h - the height of the solid cylinder
