The Math / Science

The amount of platinum one can buy is affected by two items, the current SPOT price of platinum, which is constantly changing, and the markup from the retailer.  For platinum, a highly competitive markup is low, and on the order of 10% for retailers that deal in large volumes.  12% to 15% is not uncommon nor gouging from local jewelers and pawn shops.  Above 20%, and one should consider looking elsewhere.
