In a queuing model the fundamental relationship defining the expected waiting time in the system is dependent on the mean service rate and the expected waiting time in the queue.

This equation is for Poisson Input (Arbitrary Service Time) with variance $σ^{2}$ $sigma^2$ known and for constant service time, $σ^{2}$ $sigma^2$ = 0.
