Tip Calculator

The Tip Calculator computes the TIP and Total Bill, based on the bill (b), and the quality of service (q).

Quality of Service

Levels of quality of service and the appropriate percentage of the bill used for calculating the TIP.

• Terrible: 0%
• Very Bad: 1%
• Bad: 5%
• Below Average: 10%
• Average: 15%  (Default and customary TIP in the U.S.)
• Very Good: 20% (Customary for good service in groups larger than 8 people)
• Excellent: 25%
• Outstanding: 40%

Quality of Service is a measure of the performance of the waiter or waitress.  Descriptive words to consider in Quality of Service are:

• Prompt
• Polite
• Attentive
• Pleasant

Quality of Service is not a statement on the quality of the food, nor should the server be punished or rewarded for the quality of the food.
