The Total Nursing Direct Care FTEs calculator compute the average hours per day of nursing care based on the number of patients per day and the number number of hours per patient day.

The Total Nursing Direct Care FTEs equation takes the value computed from the nursing hours per year equation divided by 1 FTE. This represents the total number of nursing hours of direct patient care needed.
The Total Nursing Direct Care FTEs equation is:
TDC=N⋅pFTE
where:
Direct Care - defined as the actual nursing interventions delivered in the name visit. Direct care activities include assessing the client, performing procedures, and teaching. For example, changing dressings, checking status, teaching family about new diet would be some activities that nurses will perform.
FTE- defined as full time equivalent. The position is a single job for 1 person, regardless of hours worked by the individual in that position. A standard FTE of one employee working for 8 hours per day, 5 day per week, 52 weeks per year will total 2,080 hours budgeted for 1.0 FTE.
