If you are making or buying a tree skirt for your Christmas tree you might wonder what size you need for your tree and how much fabric it will take to make it. Fortunately Balsam hill has the information and we can help with the math.

They have a guide to picking one of their offerings based on the height of the tree but since the width of trees can vary even at the same height the best way is to measure the diameter at the bottom of the tree. Balsam Hill's rule of thumb is to make the tree skirt diameter 6 inches bigger than the diameter of the tree. This would leave you with a tree skirt that comes out 3 inches farther than the tree all the way around.
Keep in mind that if you are making a tree skirt and you want it to be lined you would double the calculated amount of fabric. Also this calculation is the area of a square that your circular tree skirt will fit inside so that you can easily cut it out and be sure it is enough.
