The Compressibility of a Fluid (Inverse Bulk Modulus) equation calculates the Compressibility of a Fluid (Cβ) given it's Bulk Modulus (BM).

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (BM) Bulk Modulus of a Fluid

The calculator returns Compressibility of the Fluid (Cβ).

Description

In thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, compressibility (also known as the coefficient of compressibility[1] or isothermal compressibility[2]) is a measure of the relative volume change of a fluid or solid as a response to a pressure (or mean stress) change.

The inverse of the compressibility is called the bulk modulus (Cβ).

The bulk modulus (BM) of a substance is a measure of how resistant to compressibility that substance is. It is defined as the ratio of the infinitesimal pressure increase to the resulting relative decrease of the volume.
