This Directional Power Density Equation is a component of the derivation of the Radar Range Equation. This equation expresses the directional power density generally thought to be along the main lobe of an antenna. The Gain is a measure of the linear increase of the Power density for the directional lobe.
See Non-directional Power Density for an explanation of the power distributed at a distance from an isotropic radiator (radiates in all directions).
