Denarius (denarii) was a standard Roman struck coin that appears in the Bible several places in the book of Matthew. At that time (AD 14-37), a denarius weight 3.9 grams and was comprised of 97.5% pure silver. Over its history, a denarius weighed between 3.4 grams and 4.55 grams, with a purity ranging from 5% to 98% pure silver.
