[Electricity | Capacity] Capacitance is the ability of an entity to hold an electrical charge. Energy storage commonly employs the use of a parallel plate capacitor. A parallel plate capacitor's capacitance is directly proportional to the surface area of the plates and is inversely proportional to the distance between the plates.

Variables:

  • C = Capacitance
  • q = Magnitude of the charge on each of the parallel plates
  • V = Voltage
