The p-function calculator computes the p-function based on the molar concentration.

INSTRUCTION: Enter the following:

  • (molX) Molar Concentration

p-function (pX): The calculator returns the p-function.

The Math / Science

The p-function, also known as the p-value,  expresses the concentration of a chemical species.

The p-function is the negative logarithm base 10 of the Molar Concentration (the number of moles of solute per volume of solution) for the given chemical species.  The formula for the p-function is:

    pX = -log(molX)

where:

  • pX is the p-function
  • molX is the amount of concentration
