The Acceleration due to Gravity calculator computes the acceleration due to gravity based on the Universal Gravity Constant, the mass of the object (M) and the distance from the center of mass of the object (r).

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose the preferred units and enter the following:

  • (M) This is the mass of the object creating the gravity.
  • (r) This is the distance to the center of mass of the object.

Acceleration due to Gravity (g): The calculator returns the acceleration (g) in meters per second squared (m/s2).  However, this can be automatically converted to other units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The Acceleration due to Gravity equation computes the gravitational acceleration constant for an object or body,  It assumes you're trying to compute an approximate gravitational acceleration of a heavenly body, so assumes a spherical model.

The formula is:

g = G•M/r²
