This equation for stress computes the axial stress (`sigma_a`) on the inner wall end caps of a closed cylindrical pressure vessel.1 This equation assumes the outside pressure `P_o = 0`

Inputs

The stress is computed from:/attachments/b9169b86-b622-11e4-a9fb-bc764e2038f2/stress on axial cylinder.png

  • P - the pressure inside the closed cylinder
  • `r_o` - outer radius of the cylinder
  • `r_i` - inner radius of the cylinder
