Generally, this is a company's net income expressed on a per share basis. Earnings per share denotes the company's profit that is given to one share of stock. 

EXAMPLE:

DHC company has a total of 8,500,000 shares on the stock exchange. From the company's website, it is indicated that in 2013, the company's net income was almost $1.9 billion. Therefore, the EPS as determined by the equation on the calculator above is approximately $ 223.53.
