The Number of Stairs calculator computes the number of stair steps needed to accommodate a height based on a riser height.

Number of Steps (nS): The calculator returns the number of stair steps needed, the exact fractional number, and rounded up and rounded down number with even riser heights.

The Math /  Science

The calculator returns the exact number of steps (including fractional) based on the Stair Rise and the Riser Height. The calculator then computes two ideal riser heights that have a consistent riser height across a number of whole steps (no fractional step) rounding up the number of steps and rounding down the number of steps.  It then lies with you to determine which riser height is preferred.
