Mathematicians at the University of Sheffield have developed equations for the perfect tree trimming. Based on the height of the tree they can calculate the optimum number of ornaments and lengths of garland and lights.
This equation calculates the approximate length of the light string needed for the best coverage of a Christmas tree. This is assuming you are also using the calculated approximate amounts of garland and ornaments.
