Roofing Nails for Irregular Roof

Roofing Nails for Irregular Roof Section (nRN): The calculator returns the number of roofing nails needed for both normal and high wind conditions and the weight of nails for each in pounds.  The calculator also returns:

• (A) Area of Roof Section
• (nAB) Number of Architectural Shingle Bundles (32.8 ft²) 
• (nSB) Number of Standard Shingle Bundles (33.33 ft²)
• (h) Perpendicular Height (see diagram)

The Math / Science

The surface area of the Roof Section described above is equal to the area of a trapezoid.  The important aspect is that the top (T) and bottom (B) lines are roughly parallel, no two sides are the same length, and no one side is greater than the sum of the other three.  The top or the bottom can be longer.
