The Time to Achieve a Velocity calculator computes the time to go from an initial velocity to a final velocity based on the mass of the object and the force applied.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (m) mass
  • (a) initial velocity
  • (Vf) final velocity
  • (F) force

Time to (t): The calculator returns force (F) in newtons.  However, this can be automatically converted to other force units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

Newton's second law formula (F = m•a) shows the relationship between mass, acceleration and force.  This is combined with the equation to compute acceleration based on the change in velocity and time.   The formula for the Time to Achieve a Velocity is:
