The Weight of Hot Rolled Steel Square Bars calculator computes the average weight of steel bars based on the number and dimensions of the bars, and an average density of 7800 kg/m3 for steel bars.https://www.vcalc.com/attachments/e200cad3-f15d-11eb-8eb2-bc764e203090/metalflats.jpg

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:

  • (n) Number of bars
  • (L) Length of the bars
  • (W) Width or Thickness of the bars
  • (ρ) Density of metal

Weight of Hot Rolled Steel Square Bars (m): The function returns the weight in pounds. However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

Hot rolled steel is named for its mill process that involves rolling the steel at high temperatures of up to 1700 degrees Fahrenheit (926° Celsius) into a particular shape. Hot rolled steel is commonly used when precise shapes and tolerances are not essential. Cold rolled steel is heated and cooled at room temperature and then processed again by either press-braking or cold roll forming to achieve the desired shape.

The formula for the weight of metal bars is as follows:

         M = ρ • n • L • W • W

where:

  • M is the mass or weight of metal bars
  • ρ is the density of the metal
  • n is the number of bars
  • L is the length of the bars
  • W is the width or thickness of the bars
