The 3rd Degree Polynomial equation computes a third degree polynomial where a, b, c, and d are each multiplicative constants and x is the independent variable.

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:

  • [a,b,c,d] Coefficients of ax3 + bx2 + cx + d
  • (x) value of x

3rd Degree Polynomial (y): The calculator returns the value of y.

Plotting: This calculator has plotting enabled.  You can enter the coefficients (a-d) above, and then provide a range for x in the plot menu.  The plot will show the y = f(x) graph based on the 3rd  degree polynomial constants entered.

The Math / Science

A third degree polynomial is an equation of the form:

       y=ax3+bx2+cx+d

where:

  • y = dependent value
  • a, b, and c = coefficients of the polynomial
  • d = constant adder
  • x = independent value
