The Frequency from Wavelength calculator computes the RF frequency (ν) based on the wavelength (λ) and the speed of light (c).

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (λ)  This is the wavelength of the RF signal.

Frequency (ν): The calculator returns the frequency in hertz.  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The formula for the Frequency from Wavelength is:

          ν = c /  λ

where:

This equation uses the speed of light to relate the input wavelength to electromagnetic frequency and returns the corresponding frequency. It is understood that the relationship between frequency and wavelength is given by:

c = λ • ν

Note the following relations are also true:

`f = c/λ`

`f = E/h`

`E = (h⋅c) /λ`

`λ = (h⋅c)/E`

`E = h * f`
