The Reduced Temperature calculator computes the reduced temperature, one of a set of reduced properties of a fluid substance, defined by the ratio of the actual temperature (T) to the substance's critical temperature (Tc).

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose temperature units and enter the following:

  • (T) Actual Measured Temperature
  • (Tcr) Critical Temperature for Substance

Reduced Temperature (Tr): The calculator returns the reduced temperature ratio as a real number rounded to the nearest 1,000th.  However, this can be automatically converted to a percent or decibel via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The reduced properties of a fluid are a set of state variables normalized by the fluid's state properties at the fluid's critical point.  The formulas for reduced temperature is:

Tr = T / Tcr

where:

  • Tr = Reduced Temperature
  • T = Actual Measured Temperature
  • Tcr = Critical Temperature for Substance
