Paver Stones for Area or Walkway

The Number of Paver Stones calculator estimates the number of stepping or paving stones needed for an area (e.g., patio) or walkway based on the dimensions of the area and the size of the stones.

• (W) Width of Area
• (SS) Stone Size (choose from list)

Number of Paving Stones (nS): The calculator returns the area in square feet and the number of stones of the dimension specified and the approximate total weight.  It also returns the length of edging needed to properly contain the pavers.

The Math / Science

Stepping or Paving Stones are rectangular pieces of flat stone that one can buy to cover a walk way or patio area.  This formula provides the number of stepping stones needed for an area, walk way or patio based on the following formula.

The formula for the number of stones is:

   nS = L⋅W/SS

where:

• nS = Number of Stepping Stones
• L = Length of Area
• W = Width of Area
• SS = Stone Size

 The results are based on the dimensions of the area (length and width) and size of the stones.
