The Critical Pressure (liquid-vapor) utility provides the liquid-vapor critical pressure for a chosen material.

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:/attachments/eaa3e20c-2ca1-11e3-8029-bc764e049c3d/Phase-diag2.svg

  • (S) Choose the Substance:
    • Argon, Ammonia, Bromine, Caesium, Chlorine, Ethanol, Fluorine, Helium, Hydrogen, Krypton, CH4 (Methane), Neon, Nitrogen, Oxygen, CO2, N2O, H2SO4, Xenon, Lithium, Mercury, Sulfur, Gold, Water

Critical Pressure (liquid-vapor) (CP): The function returns the critical pressure in kilo pascals (kPa).  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

This critical pressure point occurs at specific conditions above which distinct liquid and gas phases do not exist. There are multiple critical points, including liquid-vapor and liquid-liquid critical points.

This equation provides the liquid-vapor critical pressure for a number of selectable substances expressed in kPa.

The critical pressure for the chosen substance provided by this equation equates to the pressure value, Pcr, shown in the image.
