The Force from Mass and Change in Velocity over Time calculator computes force based on the mass of an object and the change in velocity over time.

INSTRUCTION: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (M) Mass of Object
  • (ΔV) Change in Velocity over period ΔT
  • (ΔT)  Change in Time

Force (F):  The calculator returns the force in Newtons and mean acceleration in meters per seconds squared (m/s2).  However, these can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

This calculator uses a form Newton's 2nd Law of motion and the formula F= M•A, where acceleration: A = ΔV/ΔT.  Therefore the formula for the force from mass and change in velocity over a period of time is:

             F = M⋅ΔV/ΔT
