The Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference calculator compute the logarithmic mean temperature difference based on the temperatures of the primary and secondary inlets and outlets of a system.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (ΔTA) Temperature Change at Point A
  • (ΔTB) Temperature Change at Point B

Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference (LMTD): The calculator returns the mean in degrees Celsius.  However, however this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The formula for the Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference is:

LMTD = (ΔT_A - ΔT_B)/(lnΔT_A - lnΔT_B)

where:

  • LMTD = Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference
  • ΔTA = Temperature Change at Point A
  • ΔTB = Temperature Change at Point B
