The Air Pressure at Altitude calculator estimates the air pressure at altitude.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (h) Height above Sea Level
Air Pressure at Altitude (P): The results are returns in pascals. However, these can be automatically converted to compatible units (e.g., atmospheres) via the pull-down menu.
The Math / Science
The Air Pressure at Altitude equation estimates the nominal air pressure above sea level. The formulas for air pressure above sea level used here is:
P=101325(1−2.25577⋅10−5⋅h)5.25588
where:
- P = Air Pressure at altitude in pascals.
- h = altitude above sea level in meters
The air pressure varies widely on earth, and these changes are important in studying weather and climate. At low above the sea level, the pressure decreases by about 1.2 kPa for every 100 meters.
