The Weight of Body Above Earth's Surface calculator computes the force of weight based on the mass of the object and the height above the Earth.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (r) Height above the Earth
- (m) Mass of the Body
Weight (w): The calculator returns the weight in Newtons. However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.
The Math / Science
The formula for the weight of a body above the Earth's surface is:
` ω = (G·M_E · M_B)/(r + ER_μ)^2`
where:
- ω is the weight of a body above the Earth's Surface
- G is the universal gravity constant
- ME is the mass of the Earth
- m is the mass of the body
- r is the height above the Earth
- ERμ is the mean spherical radius of the Earth
This is a form of the Newton's Force of Gravity Equation
