The Diffusion Capacity calculator computes the diffusing capacity of the lung (DL) which is the measurement of the transfer of gas from the lungs to the red blood cells.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (F) Oxygen Lung Uptake Rate (rate that oxygen is taken up by the lung)
- (ΔP) Pressure Change (change in pressure in the lung)
Diffusion Capacity (DL): The calculator returns the diffusion capacity in mL/(min·mmHg).
The Math / Science
Used by pulmonologists, doctors who specialize in treating pulmonary conditions, to measure a patients diffusion capacity.
Diffusion Capacity = `F` / `DeltaP`' = 5/10 = .5
