The Math / Science
Effective Field Goal percentage gives you an accurate reading on who is shooting better... you or your opponent. E.F.G% gives more credit to made 3 point field goals since they yield 1.5 times the scoring of a 2 point field goal.
The formula for Effective Field Goal Percentage is:
EFG% = (2P + (1.5 * 3P) ) / AT
where:
- EFG% = Effective Field Goal Percentage
- 2P = 2 point goals made
- 3P = 3 point goals made
- AT = Total Shots attempted in the field (2PA + 3PA)
