Pearson correlation

ˆy=bx+a
(X)Values of X
(Y)Values of Y

The Pearson Correlation calculator computes the regression line equation and the correlation coefficient for a graph of X and Y paired values.

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:

  • (X)  Values for X (e.g., 1,2,3,4,5)
  • (Y)  Values for Y (e.g., 5,4,6,8,7)

Regression Line (ˆy ): The calculator computes the regression line, correlation coefficient (r) and number of entered pairs (n).The Math / Science

The Pearson correlation is the most common type of correlation and measures the degree to which a set of data points make a straight line (Gravetter and Wallnau, 2013). The Pearson correlation is represented by r, and is defined by the variability and relationship between 2 variables. This equation will tell you how strong the correlation is between 2 variables (X and Y). All you have to do is plug in your data, and the rest is done for you. This equation is functional for samples of n=6.
