Conduction Velocity

Θ
"Cross-sectional area"
"Resistance"
"Capacitance"
dV2

This equation computes the speed at which an electrochemical impulse propagates down a neural pathway.  This speed is known as the Conduction Velocity.

The equation's variables are:

  • Θ = conduction velocity
  • I = capacitance
  • A = cross-sectional area
  • R = resistance
  • d^2V/"dt"^2 = second derivative of membrane voltage to time (assumed in this case to be constant)
