Organ Blood Flow

`Q_i = ( DeltaP )/ R_i `
`"Pressure Difference"`
`"Flow Resistance"`

Blood flows continuously through the blood and passes through the body's organs on its circuitous route through arteries, veins and capillaries. The volumetric flow rate through each individual organ is dependent on the pressure into and out of the organ and the flow resistance experienced inside the organ itself.  This equation characterizes the volumetric flow of blood through the i-th organ as `Q_i`.  The inputs to this equation are:

  • `DeltaP`= Pressure difference between the inlet and outlet vessels of an organ, typically presented in units of pressure
  • `R_i`= Resistance to flow for the i-th organ, typically represented in units of pressure x time / volume
