A Room is the basic rectangular framing form. It's comprised of four walls, a ceiling, a floor and one or more entrances. it can also have windows and other features on the the walls. The most simple structures are rooms with a roof (e.g., cottage or shed). Based on a few dimensions, one can estimate the materials needed for a room.
The construction materials for a room include:
- floor joist and subflooring
- wall framing: vertical joists and horizontal plates (top plates are typically doubled on load bearing walls)
- electrical (wiring, fixtures, outlets, heating elements)
- cable and phone infrastructure
- ceiling joists or studs
- wall board (drywall, paneling, insulation)
- flooring (carpet and padding, hardwood, laminates, linoleum, tile)
- finishing (paint, wall paper, wainscoting, baseboards, crown molding, door and window trim)
