The Buoyancy Factor calculator computes the loss of weight due to immersion in drilling fluid.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
Buoyancy Factor (BF): The calculator returns a unitless factor.
Buoyancy is the reactive upward force exerted by a fluid when an object is immersed into it. Buoyancy Factor (BF) is the factor that is used to compensate loss of weight due to immersion in drilling fluid. In drilling the Buoyancy factor is calculated by subtracting the mud-weight from the given constant divided by the constant.
Buoyancy makes objects lighter in a fluid. For example, when swimming or immersed in water one tends to feel lighter than they actually are when out of water.
