INSTRUCTIONS: Choose the preferred units and enter the following:

  • (h) Height of Cone
  • (r) Radius of Based of Cone.

Cone Surface Area (A):  The surface area is returned in square meters (m2).  However, this can be automatically converted to other area units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

Height is defined as the length of the central axis from the base to the apex of the cone. See diagram.  The formula for the surface area of a cone is:

`A = pi * r * sqrt(r^2 + h^2)`
