The Weight Correction for a Diamond calculator compute the approximate weight adjustment in a percentage for diamonds based on mean diameter of the diamond and girdle thickness.  The range of the adjustment is between 0% (wc = 1.0) and 12% (wc = 1.12).

INSTRUCTONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (MD) Mean Diameter
  • (GT) Girdle Thickness

Diamond Weight Correction Factor (wc): The calculator returns the correction factor as a real number.

The Math / Science

The girdle thickness is subjective based on the experience of the jeweler.  The values are:

  • Thin-Medium
  • Slightly Thick
  • Thick
  • Very Thick
  • Extremely Thick

The Mean Diameter is the sum of the two face dimensions (H and V in the drawing) divided by 2.
