It is often useful to find a sample area that is based on a circle. The Acreage Sample Ring calculator computes the radius of a circle where the circle is equal to the area input.
The formula for an Acreage Sample Ring is:
`r = sqrt(A/pi)`
where:
- r = radius of the circle
- A = area
Practical Example
In forestry, one may want to count the number of trees in an area, say 150 acres. But a reasonable estimate might be to count the trees within a 1/10th and acre and then multiply that number by 1500 to estimate the number of trees. One can use this formula to compute the radius of a 1/10th acre ring, and count the trees within that circle.
