The Basketball Shooting Efficiency calculator computes the efficiency metric based on the number of 2 point and 3 point goals made and the number of attempts.
INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:
(2P) Two Point Goals Made
(2PA) Two Point Shot Attempts
(3P) Three Point Goals Made
(3PA) Three Point Shot Attempts
(FF) Free Throw Goals Made
(FFA) Free Throw Attempts
Effective Field Goal Percentage (EFG%): The calculator returns the Effective Field Goal Percentage. The calculator also returns the following:
(TS) Total Score
(EFG%) Effective Field Goal Percent
(%2s) Shooting Percent of 2 Point Goals
(%3s) Shooting Percent of 3 Point Goals
(%FT) Shooting Percent of Free Throws
(TSA) Total Field Shot Attempts (not including Free Throws)
(2P) Percent of 2 Point Shots of All Attempts
(3P) Percent of 3 Point Shot of All Attempts
The Math / Science
Effective Field Goal percentage gives you an accurate reading on who is shooting better... you or your opponent. E.F.G% gives more credit to made 3 point field goals since they yield 1.5 times the scoring of a 2 point field goal.
The formula for Effective Field Goal Percentage is:
EFG% = (2P + (1.5 * 3P) ) / AT
where:
EFG% = Effective Field Goal Percentage
2P = 2 point goals made
3P = 3 point goals made
AT = Total Shots attempted in the field (2PA + 3PA)
